We're gonna win Twins...nevermind

Well, the home opener was sort of a dissapointment baseball-wise. The Twins lost 5-1 in a pretty pathetic effort, with a lackluster offense and a few mental errors and bad pitches on the defensive end. We were way up high in the cheap seats, and enjoyed ourselves in spite of location and scoreboard.

I have determined that there are two reasons why I love baseball. The first is the game itself. It is a very patient game...nothing ever occurs too quickly, and it involves individuals paired against each other. Only in baseball can you succeed 1/3 of the time and have it be outstanding (how many players do you know with a .333 average?). I also enjoy the length of the season, and that success isn't determined by winning every game, just winning a few more than you lose.

The second reason why I love baseball are the things surrounding it. At the game tonight there were long stretches where I could care less about what was going on down on the field. The highlight of the night occured when they sent the "kiss cam" around the Dome, in which they feature supposed couples on the jumbo-tron in hopes that they'll give an adorable kiss for 48,000 people to see. They had gone around to a few couples, and some precious moments were captured. That, however, went completely awry when they put the camera on a younger couple, upon which the male took the head of the female and forcefully thrusted it into his lap, suggesting a kiss of a completely different sort. Realizing the kiss-cam malfunction, they quickly cut from that scene, but the damage was done. I'd say at least 80% of the sell-out crowd was in tears from laughter. It was a baseball moment that I'll treasure forever.

So yes, a great night despite the loss. Looking forward to more memorable games this season.
