There is your song from me
Blue, songs are like tattoos
You know I’ve been to sea betore
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away
Hey blue, here is a song for you
Ink on a pin
Underneath the skin
An empty space to fill in
Well there’re so many sinking now
You’ve got to keep thinking
You can make it thru these waves
Acid, booze, and ass
Needles, guns, and grass
Lots of laughs, lots of laughs
Everybody’s saying that hell’s the hippest way to go
Well I don’t think so
But I’m gonna take a look around it though
Blue, I love you
Blue, here is a shell for you
Inside you’ll hear a sigh
A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me
"Blue" - Joni Mitchell
I have often been accused of listening to depressing music. Well...those accusations are true. But look at the lyrics to that song! They are amazing! I seriously wanted to add a few hundred exclamation marks to that previous statement to emphasize how amazing I think that song is. Add to that the fact that Joni Mitchell has one of the purest voices ever...wow.
This weekend my mother talked to me about the accident, Branden's death, and how I was dealing with it. Given that this is the first experience of the sort that I've gone through, I understand that she was concerned. She made sure that I wasn't exhibiting any signs of depression, and that I had been dealing with the situation in a healthy way. I think I satisfied her and that she thinks I am OK.
And when I stop to think about it, overall I am doing OK. Sure, there are times that I feel sad, down-trodden, etc., but I think that's appropriate. Grief is not a linear process.
In other news, you may notice the addition of some blogs to my list of other blogs. There are some people going through some pretty amazing situations right now, and it's interesting to see their take on everything. People see this whole blog thing as a fad, a waste of time. To some extent, I can see that. Many people use this medium as a place to give uninteresting play-by-plays of everyday life, which is quite dull and unimaginative. But other people, myself included, have used it as a place to sort out ideas, vent feelings, and make statements about their lives that they feel are important. The fact that it's online and public makes it a great sounding board where other people can view and comment on other's thoughts.
So yes. Blogs, when in the right hands, are a good thing.
