Not Much Left...

Today begins my last week in Eau Claire - at least for awhile.

This momentous landmark in my life was celebrated with the Northstar 8th grade band playing pep tunes at a UWEC Men's Basketball Game. It was actually a pretty good time, and I think the kids enjoyed themselves. I went out to Dooley's with some teachers afterwards, and had a surprisingly involved and pleasant time. Frequently when in large groups of teachers, all of whom are older than me, I end up observing and listening, but tonight I was a participant in conversation.

I think as my impending employment draws nearer, I am mustering up the confidence to go at it full steam. Ever since I was hired, I've been very apprehensive about my ability to do well at this job. But after thinking it over, I don't think it will be as bad as I fear. Sometimes I think being intimidated by 6-year olds is a tad on the ridiculous side, but controlling large groups of them has been a daunting task I have been fearing for some time now. All I can do is just jump right in and do things the best I can. I'm young and inexperienced. I know that. The people who hired me know that. No doubt the kids will realize that. I need to stop worrying about perfection and just focus on doing the best I can. I think once the fear induced by not knowing exactly how and what I'll be doing wears off, I'll be fine.

We'll get a better feel for things on Monday when I spend a day there scoping things out. I'm actually really looking forward to it...

...Just think, a fresh batch of wiener kids! And yes, that term is one of endearment!

Don't worry - you'll do great. You're prepared for it. And if worst comes to wurst (as in brat??), just push them around. That always seems to work. :-)

I have your Smashing Pumpkins tape. I need to get it to you before you go. Remind me if I forget.

I forgot to tell you that I'll bring your Smashing Pumpkins video over this weekend, probably on Friday. Hope your week is going well.
