Hot Stove in a Drafty House
I was pretty irked this morning when I awoke to discover that my cold had returned. Still irked this evening to find that it hasn't yet gone away. I've pretty much been sick since Saturday and I'm pretty much tired of it. I have no interest in wasting another weekend on the couch. It has also been pretty effing cold lately, and the recent spell has brought up some bitter wind which has made me realize just how drafty our windows are. Might be time to shrink wrap the windows.
Despite all the cold and sorrow, there are a couple things to keep me warm on a Wednesday night. First, I scored Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii, which so far appears to be an entertaining sequel to one of my all time favorites, Mario 64. The game play/story line is very similar, but this installment involves some upside-down and sideways-ness. Hopefully I won't hurl.
The second is the plastic surgery currently being performed on the face of the Minnesota Twins. This is where people who don't give a crap about baseball can stop reading (which is probably all of you), but it's fascinating to watch. As things look now...
Long gone is Torii Hunter
Gone for sure is Johan Santana
Just traded is Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett, and Juan Rincon
What we'll end up getting in return is Delmon Young, some other Rays players, and a handful of Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, or Angels.
Honestly, I'm in support of all of these trade decisions. The Twins are looking to make their team competitive when they open the new stadium in 2010. They are doing themselves a huge favor now by dumping their big salary guys like Hunter, Santana, and maybe even Nathan. By doing this, they save room to sign their true franchise players, the Mauers, Morneaus, and Cuddyers of the world. In the meantime, they are making smart decisions and keeping the team competitive, but not breaking the bank in the process. I get the fact that Pohlad, while one of the richest guys in the country, does not want to dump tons of money into a mid-market baseball team. If the Twins were chocked full of A-Rods, Manny's, Jeter's, whatever, they wouldn't get the attention they want, because there aren't enough people in Minnesota to fill that need. I've always been a fan of the homegrown, modest, organic feel that the Twins have always had.
Is it April yet?

i agree with your statement about liking the "homegrown modest feel the Twins have always had," and I agree that it's probably for the best that they re-arrange a bit, but there is just no denying that I will miss Hunter's smile if he leaves. Sigh...
Just my two cents. I don't really follow baseball anymore anyway. Sadly, I just don't have the time and lately, I don't have the patience :) Maybe things will change by the time I move back home. I hope so.
NOT Juan Rincon. Those dumb bastards. I'm ready to give him away for free at this point. How have we not unloaded him yet.
Also, I am very happy with the trade. Alison might miss her dream-boat, but I think Harris is a better fit. "Punto with the amazing grab behind second base, flips it to Harris, he guns it to Morneau, DOUBLE PLAY! Oh, Punto saved a run on that one!" See? Has a nice ring to it.
Colin, you are seriously the worst person on the face of earth....
I wish that I would have said that stuff first. woot!
To sum up:
Go Brewers. Is it April yet, indeed.
Actually, all my templates are from Blogger. The current one I'm using for Captain's Blog is Rounders and the one I'm using for my music blog is Snapshot. It's just that I've tweaked the html on both to the point where they're kind of unrecognizable. It took me a while to figure out how to do it, but honestly, once you get it, it's not that hard to make basic edits. Lots of trial and error involved though and some characteristics of the original templates are stubborn and won't go away or be edited.
Anywho, if you have the patience and want some websites that help with html edit, here you go:
