Revisiting an old friend
So I've pulled out my old friend the trombone this week in preparation for a couple of things. I'm playing at a church service on Sunday, and am auditioning for a sub spot with the Encore Wind Ensemble early next month, so I want to not suck. It's amazing how craptastic your tone can sound when you put your horn away for way too long. Also, I'm picking out a couple of pieces for the audition (2 solos, unaccompanied, contrasting style), and I've forgotten what it's like to play solo music.
I'm revisiting a couple of my senior recital pieces. I'm going to do the Sarabande from Bach's 2nd Cello Suite, and the Allegro from Barat's Andante and Allegro.
I've been doing the Barat with Smart Music, and it's enjoyable. I was never a diligent, disciplined musician in college, and it's certainly tough now. Kudos to all of you still playing every day, you all have the desire and dedication I never found...or have found in other areas. I still heart my trombone, though...even if I have a cruel way of showing it.
