It's Saturday Morning...
Man, weekends are great when you have a real job. Since you're up at the crack of dawn every day, "sleeping in" means that you're still up at 8 with a good 10 hours of sleep, and ready to tackle the day. Since you got all of your work done at work, there's nothing to worry about over the weekend (aside from moving, finding a job, and wedding details). But right now, there's nothing. I got up, had me a good breakfast, and have been putzing around all morning. I might go outside in a bit and try and injure myself on my new rollerblades.
I'm getting pretty excited about job prospects in Washington. There are two positions that I'm applying for; one that I think I have no shot at, and one I think I have a pretty good shot at. The first is a High School band/orchestra director at a Jesuit preparatory school in Tacoma...yikes. The second is a 3-5 elementary music teaching job in Blaine, WA. While I'd rather teach band (and the elementary job might have some beginning band with it), Blaine is right where Alison and I want to move to, right in the NW part of the state, just a stone's throw away from Canada.
All of this job-finding has been expensive. I have to get 3 seperate teaching licenses (one for my current job in MN, one for summer band in WI, and one for WA). That's 3 seperate filing fees, and 3 seperate FBI fees for 3 seperate fingerprint cards. Cha-ching. Not to mention the cost of buying resume paper and envelopes, stamps, etc. Hopefully it will pay off. It's stressful, but in a way it's kind of fun. Kind of.
Spring break is less than a week away! Alison and I are headed to Washington to visit the place we want to live. We'll spend a couple of days in Seattle with high school buddies Nick and Brien who have a sweet place in the city. Then we'll head up to Bellingham, see the sites, harass would-be-employers, then head over to Mt. Vernon to visit a certain Greg Van Sickle. I'm totally stoked.
Well, time to go start my day. I've updated my page with some more blog links. Have fun with that.
