A real-live to-do

Wow, yesterday was a busy day. Got a call from HS pal Dorian saying that there was a softball game being played up near Dinkytown, followed by a BBBQ and a show later that evening. So I head up to Van Cleve park in Minneapolis, and find no one, wait around for awhile, find Dorian, who also can't find anyone. So we head over to his friend's house, and they're already BBBQing. After sitting and watching them do that for awhile, we head back over to the field and play a pretty sweet game of softball. By the way: I am really bad at softball.

Then we head to Chipotle to get a burrito, and it's off to the Cabooze for some bluegrass. And man, were there a lot of hippies there. Hippies in skirts, hippies in bibs, hippies with dread-locks, and hippies with pierced lips. There was tons of pro-marijuana propaganda being passed around, including several leaflets entitled "How d'ya smoke pot without going to jail?" and other literature informing you, the pot smoking public, of ways to stay out of trouble. Apparently pot-smoking is really, really, really important to people.

Anyway, the show was great. When we arrived at the Cabooze, I was tired and sore from softball, so I parked my ass on a stool where I had a good view of the show, and had a grand ol' time. The group 40-Watt Bulb was on first, and they were a delightful trio that could really play their instruments. Next up was Duluth troubador Charlie Parr, with his guitar and a guy who played the washboard and a regular board with some sticks. Charlie Parr is an amazing musician. The third act was the White Iron Band, and man, they brought the place down. So much energy! It was great. By the time Trampled by Turtles took the stage, I was very tired and cramped from sitting in my stool, so I went towards the door to get some fresh air and to stretch. We watched most of their act, and then headed back to the warmth and safety of the suburbs. A good time was had by all.
