Goddamn tragedy

It's amazing how something you couldn't even imagine affecting you has its way of doing exactly that. If you've been watching the news, you have undoubtedly heard of the commuter jet that crashed in Kentucky, killing all but one of its 50 passengers. I just got a call from Nate Medsker, and one of those 49 passengers was Kelly Heyer, a UWEC graduate and alumnus of the Gamma Beta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. I will be the first to admit that I did not know Kelly that well, but I know many people who did, and my heart goes out to them, as well as anyone affected by this incident.

From the Star Tribune:

Flight attendant Kelly Heyer was single and lived in the Cincinnati area. He had been working for the airline since 2004 and was recently appointed base representative for the flight attendant union said Tracy Riley, a union secretary and fellow Comair flight attendant.

"He was a standup individual," Riley said. "He was very professional, loved the job."

I hope someone will tell me if something is being done on behalf of PMA, UWEC, or what have you.
