Why I love my job
So I'm teaching this General Music class in the high school...and for you faithful readers, this would be the one that was assigned to me the day before school started. My challenge was to create a unique class for students who did not sign up for music, and, to quote my quotable principle "do something fun and funky."
So I've roleld with it, with fairly decent results. Tomorrow's lesson? Dance music. Leading off the discussion: Napoleon Dynamite. Other listening excerpts will cover:
-Beyonce and Jay-Z: "Deja Vu"
-Vengaboys: "We Like to Party"
-The Macarena
-The Cha-Cha Slide
-Boot Scootin' Boogie
The list goes on...Since there's a school dance on Friday, I'm gonna get catch them in the right mindset the next two days by listening and analyzing popular dance music, then next week hit 'em with the hard stuff and look at traditional and classical dances (rite of spring, handel's water music, bach's cello suites). I'm an evil, evil man.
