...and I'll be fine, resting like a child
Wow.
What an incredible show. I can't believe these guys are moving away. Wait, scratch that. I can most certainly believe these guys are leaving. With talent like this, they need to find some higher rooftop to proclaim their majesty from. The WHYS benefit concert was a huge success. They raised over $1,300 for the station, and had some great bands playing. The show started with Waltzes With Bears, a guitar, bass and drum trio fronted by Jon Sunde that. Will all of them singing, they end up feeling more like a six piece ensemble then a trio. Very awesome. Next was Echo Bravo, which I hadn't heard before, but was a lot of fun to listen to. Following them was Sic Transit Gloria, a young band with a frontman with a nasty, dirty sass-mouth. Normally I'm OK with a little bit of sass, but unfortunately these guys just didn't back it up with music to support their sass....however, I did enjoy their cover of Love Shack.
The highlight of the night though was the last act. Amateur Love and DeYarmond Edison joined forces (which actually only added 2 extra members) to form a veritable super group...they called themselves something, I forget, but it involved a forest. Anyway, the set was incredible. They played lots of songs I didn't know/couldn't pick out/comprehend, including some old Dinner With Gregg tunes (an EC band before my time), and some A-Love tunes. They got the crowd worked up into a horrible frenzy, and we ended up leaving about 5 minutes after closing time.
So here I am, it's 2:30am, and I'm as wired as a time bomb. Tomorrow I'm practicing w/Phil Dorn for my recital, then home to Duluth. Monday I see the doc, who will probably won't tell me anything I haven't already figured out about my knee. I don't think it'll ever quite be the same, but I'll deal with it.
So yes, in closing, I think I could easily justify fathering the children of any of the members of Amateur Love or DeYarmond Edison. They're just that good.
I'm going to go de-fuse now. Goodnight.
