Totally 90's
So forgive me for watching American Idol, but I happened to be viewing last week's finale, and I was very pleased with Dave Cook's selection that evening:
"The World I Know" by Collective Soul
Which, on this Saturday afternoon, has hurtled me back into a fit of nostalgia. I've been cruising around YouTube for bands of that era. Man, Collective Soul was good. You know who else was good?
Our Lady Peace "Clumsy"
I remember wearing out my copy of "Happiness...is Not A Fish You Can Catch" my junior year in High School. I remember back in those days, I had relatively few concerns, so it was easy to get completely engrossed and wrapped up in something like pop music. Unfortunately, I don't have the time these days (nor is it something I'm paid for, like certain people I know) for the same amount of devotion. Going back and listening to this stuff brings back good times, though.
What music were you obsessed with "back in the day"?
Off the top of my head:
-The Smashing Pumpkins (Every album really, but especially "Adore" and "Siamese Dream")
-The Offspring "Ixnay on the Hombre" and "Americana" (listened to them both on the bus to and from school for the better part of several months)
-Our Lady Peace (aforementioned)
-Cake "Prolonging the Magic" and "Fashion Nugget"
-Ben Folds Five "Whatever and Ever Amen"
-Mason Jennings "Mason Jennings" and "Birds Flying Away"
-No Doubt "Tragic Kingdom"
-Reel Big Fish "Turn the Radio Off"
-Weezer ("Blue" "Green" and "Pinkerton")

hey, i wrote this post last semester :)
but seriously. i love collective soul.
Yes old man, that's the kind of music that allowed you to be such an individual. It made you feel things that no one had ever felt before. You're a unique and beautiful snowflake. I wouldn't understand.
End communication!
it's 2am and you just sent me into a fit of collective soul nostalgia ... looks like i won't be sleeping tonight....
